Hardwood or steel?

Hardwood is cheaper and lasts 25 to 40 years. Steel costs about a thousand more, lasts longer, does not rot or burn, and is the sensible choice on bushfire-prone or termite-prone land, which covers a lot of the Coast's hinterland. If you plan to be in the house a long time, steel usually wins on cost per year.

What is not in a cheap quote

Disposal of the old pole, the Ausgrid notification, the CCEW, and reinstatement of the ground. If a quote is well under the figures above, check what has been left out. The full cost guide lists everything a proper quote should include.
