What is power pole replacement?

If your pole is leaning, rotted at the base, split, or has been tagged by Ausgrid with a defect notice, it must be replaced by a Level 2 ASP electrician. We replace 3-4 private poles every week across the Central Coast, from Peninsula homes in Woy Woy and Umina through to rural blocks in Somersby and Kulnura.

When you need it

  • You've received an Ausgrid defect notice (red, yellow or blue sticker).
  • Your pole is visibly leaning, split, or the base is soft/rotten.
  • A storm has brought down or damaged the pole.
  • An insurer has asked for a safety inspection and the pole has failed.
  • You're upgrading the property and want the pole renewed before solar or EV work.

Our process

Site inspection

We inspect the existing pole, measure clearances and check the condition of the service line and connections.

Written quote

Fixed quote covering pole, brackets, service line renewal (if needed), excavation, reinstatement and Ausgrid notifications.

Temporary supply (if required)

If the pole must come down before the new one is in, we set up a temporary supply so you're not without power overnight.

Replacement

Pole removed, new pole stood, brackets transferred, service line re-terminated, tested.

Energise & certify

Ausgrid energisation request, CCEW issued, old pole removed from site.

Common questions

Frequently asked

I just got a defect notice - how long do I have?
Most Ausgrid defect notices require rectification within 21 days. A red (priority) sticker shortens that window. Call us today - we usually book defect jobs within the week.
Will my power be off?
We aim for a single planned outage of 2-4 hours. If the work is more complex we can arrange a temporary supply so the interruption is minimised.
Can I replace the pole myself or use a general electrician?
No. Private pole replacement is Level 2 ASP work - only accredited electricians can do it and certify it to Ausgrid.
What happens to the old pole?
We remove it from site and dispose of it through our timber/steel recycling channels. It's included in the quote.
Do you service rural Central Coast areas too?
Yes - Kulnura, Mangrove Mountain, Mount White, the Yarramalong and Dooralong Valleys. Remote travel may add a small component to the quote.
