What is underground power lines (ud)?

Underground (UD) power supply is the norm for most new Central Coast subdivisions and the preferred solution where overhead is impractical - coastal sites, heritage properties, large established gardens. UD work touches the Ausgrid network, so it must be carried out by a Level 2 ASP electrician. We install UD services from the pit or pillar through to your main switchboard.

When you need it

  • A new build on a UD-supplied estate (most new subdivisions).
  • Converting an existing overhead service to underground.
  • A large property where overhead clearance is hard to achieve.
  • Tree strike history on an overhead line.
  • A subdivision requiring pit and pillar connections.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Can you do the trench or does my builder need to?
Either works. We can excavate ourselves (we carry a mini excavator for small trenches) or work to a trench your builder has already opened - as long as it meets the depth and bedding spec.
Will the driveway need to be saw-cut?
If the cable runs under existing concrete, usually yes. We'll include saw-cutting, conduit installation and patching in the quote.
How long does a typical UD install take?
2-3 days for a standard residential install once Ausgrid's pit connection date is confirmed.
