What is smart meter installation?

Smart meters are replacing legacy accumulation meters across NSW, either driven by your retailer, your solar installation, or because your old meter has failed. Only an Ausgrid-accredited Level 2 ASP electrician can install them. We install single-phase and three-phase smart meters across the Central Coast and liaise directly with your retailer's metering provider where needed.

Our process

Book a time

Agree a 1-2 hour window with us; we lodge the metering request with your retailer.

Pre-inspection

We check your meter panel has space and is compliant; if not, we quote the upgrade at the same time.

Install day

Power off for around 30-60 minutes while we remove the old meter and install and commission the new one.

Commissioning

Meter energised, data handshake tested, retailer notified; you get a CCEW.

Compliance & paperwork

All meters installed are approved Types under AS 4777 where relevant, with full commissioning data handshakes to the metering provider and a CCEW to you.

How long does a smart meter install take?

The power is off for around 30-60 minutes. Total attendance is usually 1-2 hours.

Do I need to tell my retailer first?

We can handle the metering request for you. If your retailer is pushing the change, give us the reference number and we take it from there.

Why do I need a smart meter for solar?

A bi-directional meter records both import and export. Without one your export can't be credited to your bill.

What if my meter box is too small or non-compliant?

We quote a meter panel upgrade at the same time so everything is done in one attendance.
