Why not Ausgrid?
Ausgrid owns the network in the street. The defect is on your side of the connection, on equipment you own. They inspect it and require you to fix it, but they do not fix it for you and do not send someone out for it. Calling 13 13 88 about a defect notice gets you a polite explanation of exactly that.
Why not my regular electrician?
Because of where the work is. Poles, service lines, points of attachment, consumer mains and meters are on the network side of the main switch, and only an Accredited Service Provider (Level 2) can work there. Your electrician may be excellent, and may be able to look at it and tell you what is wrong, but cannot rectify it or lodge the close-out with Ausgrid. Many good general electricians simply refer the job to us.
What to have ready when you call
- A photo of the notice, front and back
- A photo of the thing it refers to (the pole, the meter box, the bracket on the wall)
- The address and whether anyone lives there
- Any access issues: locked gates, dogs, tenants
With those we can usually give an indicative price and a booking on the first call.
How urgent is it?
The notice states the timeframe. Most give 21 days. Some are marked urgent and mean it. Either way, the earlier you call the more choice you have on dates. See the full defect notice guide or go straight to the defect rectification service.
