What it says
Who did the work, their licence number, what was done, where, when, and a declaration that it complies with AS/NZS 3000 and the NSW rules. For work involving the supply (poles, mains, meters), it also goes to Ausgrid.
Why you want it
- Insurance. After a fire or fault, the first question is whether the electrical work was certified.
- Selling. Buyers' building inspectors flag uncertified electrical work. A CCEW closes the question.
- Ausgrid. A defect notice is not closed until the CCEW is lodged.
- Solar and meters. Retailers and Ausgrid need it before export is enabled.
- Future work. The next electrician knows what was done and by whom.
What if you never got one?
Ask the electrician. They are required to issue it. If they will not or cannot, the work may not have been done by a licensed person, and a licensed electrician will need to inspect and, if it complies, certify it. This is a common surprise on older Coast homes where a previous owner "had a mate do the switchboard".
