1. Are you a Level 2 ASP, and what is your number?
The single most important question, and the one people forget. Accreditation is held by the individual and covers specific classes: disconnect and reconnect, overhead, underground, metering. If the job is a pole, they need overhead. If it is a meter, they need metering. Anaconda holds all four.
2. Who actually does the work?
Some general electricians quote Level 2 jobs and subcontract the accredited part. That is not wrong, but you should know who is coming, and their number should be on the paperwork.
3. What is in the price?
Ausgrid notification, energisation request, the CCEW, disposal, reinstatement. If any of these are extras or "we will see", the quote is not comparable with one that includes them.
4. Is it fixed?
A price from a photo is an estimate. A price after a site visit should be fixed. Ask for it in writing.
5. When can you do it?
For a defect notice, this decides whether you meet the deadline. For a storm, it is the whole point. A local Level 2 with their own EWP and pole truck does not need to hire equipment or wait on a subbie.
Signs of a good one
- Publishes indicative prices
- Explains what a CCEW is without being asked
- Has real reviews that mention Level 2 jobs by name
- Owns the gear: EWP, pole truck, cable trailer
